Files will download as compressed zip folders. Using Windows:

1. Right click on the downloaded file.
2. Choose Extract All ... from pop up menu.
3. Double click on the newly created uncompressed folder to find the file.
4. ".pdf" files are best viewed using a two page spread.

This little project was born from a desire to better organize our own date book, but we printed some more for friends and family.

The book renders a single calendar month over a two page spread, so the binding lies between Tuesday and Wednesday. The design makes it easy to make lots of personal notes in the margins and specific days.

A few books with a spiral ring binding are still available.

The total print run for the three Editions was 200 copies with seven printings.

The book is all original content. It was authored using a spreadsheet. The data in the spreadsheet was programmatically merged into a MySQL® Database. PHP was used to tag the data with XML. Adobe InDesign® was used to apply styles to the XML tags. The advantage of this technique is that custom and updated versions of this text can be quickly and easily typeset. Original maps and artwork were developed using Adobe Illustrator®.

Three "Taxi Driver Safety" essays were written by the late Roy Ambury and myself. They were first published sequentially in News from Behind the Wheel, a local taxi industry news magazine. They were inspired in part by the murder of a fellow driver, David Krick, on Father's Day 2007.

The first essay, Roy's Story, is a first person account of getting held up by a knife-wielding thief. The second essay, ACTS, suggests linear thinking in a dangerous situation: Assess, Communicate, Take Control and Separate. And the third essay, Taxi Driver Safety Skills, is a discussion of core skills needed to stay safe on the job.
