The Links

At the time of writing, I used the official candidate's web page for my links if one existed. Otherwise, the link will take you to a Google search using the candidate's name and constituency. If an official website for the candidate is created, I will update the link. Sorting was done by first name.

For those candidates without a website, I emailed them to be sure. Two candidates directed me to their social media accounts, which is what I've used for their link.

Nominations

The final day for candidate nominations was August 19.

The Ballot

As a voter, you will cast your ballot to elect three officials:

  1. City of Kingston Mayor.
  2. City of Kingston District Councillor, based upon your residential address.
  3. School Board Trustee, based upon your residential address and which school board you support through your property taxes.

Official

From the 2022 Candidate's Guide:

To run for a position on council you must be eligible to vote in that municipality. On the day you file your nomination, you must be a Canadian citizen aged 18 or older, and qualify as a resident or non-resident elector. For more information about eligibility to vote, please see the 2022 Voters' Guide.

From the 2022 Voter's Guide:

As an eligible candidate or voter, your Qualifying Address may be one of:

  • resident elector
  • non-resident elector
  • spouse of a non-resident elector

Current Statistics, as of September 19, 2022

Of the 40 candidates running for District Councillor:

  • Twelve are using a Qualifying Address outside the boundaries of the chosen electoral district, and in one case, the candidate's Qualifying Address is not declared on the candidate list.
  • Four candidates are using a Qualifying Address that is very similar to another candidate.

Of the current 13 member council:

  • ten members are men
  • nine members have an education from Queen's University
  • seven members are seeking re-election
  • none appear to be from a visible minority

Vote

For the good of our community, may we all be well intentioned and well informed.

For the good of our democracy, may each candidate be treated with respect.

Just as rights and responsibilities go together, so too does patriotism and participation.
